To start out the week, I wanted to share with you a huge lifestyle change I’ve been experiencing in the last 3 weeks. Now I know they say it takes a month or so to really solidify a new habit, but I’m confident enough to tell you now!
This shirt kills me and also explains the truth. Obviously I have been adding in fitness and nutrition heavily into my daily life. It is true what they say about how it is a lifestyle change…versus just hitting the gym randomly like I used to.
Lets make one thing very clear, I am no fitness expert nor can I claim to everything about fitness and nutrition. However, I am proud of the last 3 weeks and wanted to share some advice and insight just in cause you really want to take the plunge also!
Workout Schedule
Plan. It. Out. Literally. Write it down, get a class schedule, and stay on track. I go to the gym every other day. If I skip a day, like when the bachelor is on and I need to watch it with my bestie, I need to make up for it. So obvi go two days in a row.
I work out after work so I just learned to plan things around the gym–not the other way around like I used to. It’s just making it a priority.
What’s Your Motivation?
In the past, I never had any real reason to go to the gym. I’m super healthy, I was not overweight–but recently, I can’t eat like I used to and getting older, you must do it for your heart. Look in the mirror and ask yourself…am I healthy? Am I doing right by my future self? So whether you are sweating for a wedding or doing cardio for your heart…make sure to know why you are doing it. That way when you don’t want to go to the gym…you always have something to remind you of the importance of that gym session.
Get New Gear
With the fitness industry booming, you better believe there is no shortage of goodies you can buy for your new lifestyle. Clothes and accessory options are endless! You will want to use and wear everything you buy for the gym. Get a water bottle that has an option for fruit in it–that way you drink more water. New Nikes? Yes please. If you need to buy pink weights instead of black..do it!
I know color has been huge for fitness and I mean COLLLLOR. “The crazier the better” I see all the time. However, over here, I seem to have been keeping my color to a minimum. I figure I wear the strange things outside of the gym, I shall keep it subtle for the gym. But hey–go nuts guys! Just get to the gym okay?
Get a Trainer or a Work Out Buddy
By far the biggest factor for me. I happen to be lucky and date a huge workout buff. If it weren’t for Jeisson pushing me and keeping me accountable, who knows where I wouldn’t be. Use a trainer or someone knowledgeable to show you how to use the machines. Jeisson tells me to look on YouTube but when you’re new to the gym, figuring out how to use the machines is intimidating. Most gyms give you the option of free consultations or trainers. Utilize this! You will learn a lot and when you know what you’re doing, it makes going easier and more effective. I know I just used the elliptical all the time but now I am lifting weights! Switching it up so going isn’t the same chore every time. And join a class! Pilates is my jam! I know the moves but when in a class, it forces you to do it.
Diet
The best part of what I have been doing is that my diet has not changed drastically. Aside from watching sugar intake, I still east pasta which is fab. It is true that you should carb up as long as you burn it at the gym. I don’t usually eat carbs unless I know I am going to the gym that night. I haven’t been to Starbucks in forever since their drinks have like 32 grams of sugar in them–terrible. Maybe a treat every now and then, plus it is saving money. It is all balance to me. Make sure I work out and I can go to brunch over the weekends (just sub potatoes for fruit). Just make sure you don’t eat a greasy burger and justify it with “well I just worked out”. Unfortunately, it doesn’t go that far ha.
Need more energy for the gym? Drink THIS about 30 minutes before you hit the gym. I got the fruit punch flavor, delish. I just use a scoop and a half because I am a newbie. 🙂

Well, there you have it. A little snap shot of the last 3 weeks towards a healthier life! I am still surprised of the new habits I have acquired and how much work out gear I am buying versus shoes.
But at least I know I will look forward to swim suits by the time that comes! If it ever does!
Have a great Monday! xo
